So, for Duterte, it's okey for China to encroach, reclaim and put up structures and installations and for Chinese fishermen to plunder and destroy the marine resources in West Philippine Sea as long as they are not mining the area? This reasoning by a leader is so wrong and in essence condoning and tolerating China of it's unlawful and bullying activities in the area. He is also ditching the rights of Filipino fisherfolks who have been fishing in the area for a long time by saying that the area is not rich in marine resources, which has no solid basis at all. The double whammy of foreign investments in destructive #mining and illegal logging activities in #Myanmar has caused vast #deforestation of up to 10 million hectares. These foreign investments fuel the fire to the ongoing internal conflicts involving ethnic minorities and government forces, causing thousands of displacement among rural peoples, widespread land grabs of ancestral domain, and degradation of their indigenous way of life. Our natural food sources are in critical state and the agriculture and the environment, sadly are not among the priorities of the government while Filipinos’ access to safe and sufficient food is problematic. Climate change has also had its impact on food production, thus affecting our food producers and limiting the healthy options for our consumers.
